Veronica Lockett

Veronica Lockett is a licensed attorney in Texas. She represents parents involved with Child Protective Services (CPS). Veronica stands out as one of a small elite group of attorneys who are also members of the social work profession.

Her love for people and passion for justice are woven throughout her work, which parallels her own life. During her career, she has worked closely with, supported, and advocated for people with the most complex needs. Additionally, Veronica has raised two exceptional children and served as a kinship and voluntary placement for her nieces and nephews.

The message to Black Professionals is that there exists an overrepresentation of Black family involvement, and the legal/CPS system lacks proportionate Black professional representation. Black families experience poverty at a much higher rate, thus subjecting Black families to bias and over-surveillance. In Veronica’s experience, the Black professional hat is the oppressor providing the over-surveillance rather than mentorship. We have to be willing to teach and mentor our moms and dads.
